ScherZinger Pest Control

How our SEO strategy boosted organic traffic by 74%.

Results Summary

ScherZinger saw year-over-year organic users grow by 74% (up 44,949 organic users). This trend continued the following year-over-year period with 20% growth (up another 21,035 organic users). Leads across the board also grew 7% in 2020 compared to 2019.

The Challenge

ScherZinger Termite & Pest Control has been a local mainstay since 1934, but over time, they began to face competition on all sides: from national franchises, lawn care companies offering crossover services, and single-service firms offering targeted solutions to acute one-pest problems—not to mention other local pest control companies in the area.

The Approach

First, we needed to ensure ScherZinger’s website was set up for optimal search engine ranking. It was critical potential customers could find ScherZinger both when they were looking directly for a pest-control solution or when collecting info about how to treat a problem. We did that by:

  • Launching a new website (in early 2020) driven by SEO strategy, focusing on increased mobile friendliness, speed, and SEO best practices.
  • Holding biennial website audits to check for technical SEO issues, and addressing issues uncovered (resizing too-large images, for example).
  • Monthly monitoring of SEO-related metrics in Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Moz.

Our SEO strategy didn’t stop at having a technically sound website. We’ve been using keyword research and search trends to develop and write blog content for ScherZinger since 2013.

For example, when we noticed search results for DIY and essential oils pest control solutions skyrocket in early 2020, we wrote informative blog posts about the pros and cons of using DIY pest control. These particular posts alone produced a 58% increase in organic traffic (in March and April 2020) compared to the previous two months (January and February 2020).

The Results

With the new website launch in April of 2020, ScherZinger saw year-over-year organic users grow by 74% (up 44,949 organic users). This trend continued the following year-over-year period with 20% growth (up another 21,035 organic users). And in 2021, the top five blog posts on ScherZinger’s site were related to DIY or essential oils, accounting for 57% of all organic site traffic (72,765 users).

Thanks in part to our SEO strategy, leads across the board also shot up 7% in 2020 compared to 2019.
